Self/Nonself: Immune Recognition and Signaling is a multidisciplinary journal that publishes novel peer-reviewed findings in all areas of immunology ranging from molecular and structural immunology to immune imaging and therapy. Priority is given to work that provides fundamental insight into the workings of the immune system with a particular emphasis on the mechanisms underlying immune recognition and transmembrane signal transduction at the molecular, cell and functional level. Major criteria for acceptance are quality, originality, significance, clarity and conciseness.
Self/Nonself places its highest priority on fair and rapid review and speedy publication. Submission of a manuscript implies that the data have not been published previously and will not be submitted for publication elsewhere while the manuscript is under review. Decisions on whether to send a manuscript out for peer review are normally made within two working days of receipt and decisions about publication are typically made within two days of receipt of the referees' reports.
Descriptions of new reagents, approaches, research techniques or clinical case reports usually are appropriate only to the extent they provide innovative insight into unresolved problems or represent major breakthroughs.
In addition to publishing significant Original Research Papers and Full-Length Articles, Self/Nonself also publishes Rapid Reports, Letters to the Editor, Reviews, Analytical Opinions, Addenda, Perspectives, Cutting Edge Views/Editorials/News and Views, Commentaries and Meeting Reports, thus serving as the major conduit of top-quality information on immune recognition and signaling for the immunology community.
Self/Nonself recognizes that excellent papers may have been erroneously rejected by other journals. We will reconsider papers that have been rejected by Nature, Science, Nature Medicine, Nature Immunology, Journal of Immunology and some other journals in the original format of those journals, thus saving the authors effort and time. The authors are encouraged to enclose the reviewers' and/or editorial comments from the above mentioned journals. This will certainly expedite the evaluation of the article and it is possible the article might be accepted based on its previous review. This will allow the urgent and competitive research to be published in a timely manner. You may submit your paper online or email it to the Editor-in-Chief.
