Call for Papers

Gut Microbes focuses on microorganisms—including fungi, parasites, bacteria, and viruses-populating the intestine, both commensals and pathogens. Based on the current impact of the metagenome sequencing of the gut flora and the important strides being made regarding host-pathogen interactions, we believe that this new journal is both timely and important! This widely unexplored topic has implications for gastrointestinal health and disease including immunity, autoimmune disease, antimicrobials, nutrition, and obesity.

Gut Microbes has a strong scientific and medical focus, but also strives to serve a broader readership. The journal brings together basic and clinical research on all aspects of the gut flora. Therefore, we believe the journal's content will be of interest to scientists, clinical researchers, and physicians.

Gut Microbes is indexed in PubMed/Medline.

Journal topics include:

Basic
  • • Mechanisms of pathogensis of gut microbes-bacteria, viruses, parasites, etc.
  • • Protective effects of probiotics
  • • Definition of the gut microbiome
  • • Role of commensal flora in GI disease
  • • Structural definition of bacterial toxins and effector molecules
  • • Host-pathogen interactions
  • • Animal models of GI infection of GI-diseases with microbial component
  • • Harnessing microbial strategies for treatment of human disease
  • • Role of TLRs/Nods in intestinal disease and homeostasis
  • • Biofilms
  • • Quorum Sensing
Clinical
  • • Ramifications of GI infections
  • • Clinical trials of probiotics/antibiotics
  • • Novel case reports of GI infections
  • • New/novel treatments and diagnostic tests for GI infections
  • • Role of gut microbiome in GI disease (IBD, IBS, GI cancers, obesity)
  • • Antibiotics in treatment of GI diseases
  • • Epidemiology of GI infections

Gut Microbes publishes three general types of papers: (1) Original Research, (2) Reviews, (3) Commentaries and Perspectives. Original papers cover important topics related to the gut microflora. Reviews will take several forms and will generally be invited. Commentaries and Perspectives on any aspect of gut microbes and/or their impact on the host will be welcome.
